🕐 Best time to visit
Clear mornings; sunrise is famous but early for a cruise day
At 1,530 feet, Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on the eastern seaboard and, for part of the year, the first place in the United States to catch the sunrise. A narrow summit road climbs to sweeping 360-degree views over Frenchman Bay, the Porcupine Islands and, on a clear day, all of Mount Desert Island. A timed vehicle reservation is required to drive up in season and there is no bus, so plan a taxi or tour.
Getting there from the port
Up the Cadillac Summit Road by car, taxi or tour; a timed vehicle reservation is required in season. No bus goes to the summit.
