Built in 1658, St Nicholas Abbey is one of only three Jacobean mansions left in the Americas, with curved Dutch gables, coral-stone chimneys and antique-filled rooms. A grand avenue of mahogany trees leads up to the house. The estate still makes rum in its own distillery, and from January to May the steam mill grinds cane into syrup. The St Nicholas Abbey Heritage Railway runs steam trains through the plantation to Cherry Tree Hill, with views over the rugged Scotland District. Allow half a day including the drive.
