There is nothing at Chan May, so pre-book a private car with driver (about USD 80-140 per car for the day) that meets you at the port gate; Hue is roughly 80 km / 1.75 hours north via the Hai Van tunnel. Entries are cheap and paid in dong: the Citadel is about 200,000 VND (~EUR 7.50) and Khai Dinh's tomb about 150,000 VND (~EUR 5.50); Thien Mu Pagoda is free. Split between two to four people a private car is far cheaper than the per-person ship tour.

Pre-book a private car at the port gate; the Marble Mountains are about 40 km / 1 hour south (just before Da Nang) and Hoi An another 30 minutes on. The Marble Mountains cost about 40,000 VND plus a 15,000 VND lift (~EUR 2) and Hoi An's old-town ticket is about 120,000 VND (~EUR 4.50). Lunch on cao lau noodles runs a few euro. Everything is walkable once you are dropped in each spot.
