Nisbet Beach runs along the northern tip of Nevis at Newcastle, reached down a long avenue of coconut palms from the plantation house that Fanny Nisbet grew up on and that Horatio Nelson married into in 1787. The strand is broad and pale and faces the Atlantic side of the channel, which means real waves and a steady breeze rather than the glassy calm of Pinney's. The plantation inn behind it serves lunch on the lawn at around US$30 a head and the beach is public, as all beaches here are. Twenty-five minutes and US$25 by taxi from the pier, so worth it as a half day rather than a quick stop.
