Late morning, before the afternoon glare
Pinney's Beach runs north from the edge of Charlestown for about four miles, a continuous strip of soft gold sand under coconut palms with the mountains of St Kitts across the water. The southern end, twenty minutes' walk from the pier, is where the beach bars are and where the Four Seasons has its stretch; keep walking north and the crowd thins to nothing within a mile. Swimming is calm and shelving on the whole length. There are no public facilities, so a beach bar is where you find a toilet, a lounger for ten to twenty US dollars and something cold, and the walk back is entirely on sand.
Getting there from the port
Twenty minutes on foot north along the shore, or US$12 by taxi for the car
