But the island's headline sights are inland or along the coast and need a taxi or organised tour: Trafalgar Falls, Titou Gorge and the Emerald Pool in Morne Trois Pitons National Park (a UNESCO site), the strenuous Boiling Lake hike, the volcanic Champagne Reef for snorkelling near Soufriere, and the Kalinago Territory, home of the Caribbean's last indigenous people. Dominica is also one of the few places on earth to see resident sperm whales year-round on a boat trip from Roseau.

The berth is in downtown Roseau, but these sites are inland on steep, winding roads, so a DIY means sharing one of the licensed taxis that wait at the Bayfront for a half-day island loop (about US$40–50pp, agreed up front). Trafalgar Falls is about 40 minutes inland via Trafalgar village with a short boardwalk to the twin falls; the Emerald Pool is a further drive with a 10-minute rainforest walk. Each forest site charges a small eco site pass (about US$5). Back in Roseau the Botanic Gardens are a free, flat walk from the pier.

The Kalinago Territory is about 30 km northeast of Roseau, roughly an hour each way over winding mountain roads, so a DIY needs a licensed taxi or small-group tour arranged in advance (about US$55–65pp) — this is too far for the sparse public minibuses on a fixed cruise day. Entry to the Barana Aute model village is about US$10 and includes a guided walk through the canoe, cassava and craft stations. Pair it with a Creole lunch in the territory.
