Old Sow Whirlpool Viewpoint

Old Sow is the largest tidal whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere, churning in the narrows between Eastport and Deer Island as huge volumes of water move with the tide. It is most dramatic about three hours before high tide; you can watch from the shore around Dog Island or, better still, from a local boat tour.
