Port summary
Goa is one of India's most popular cruise calls and the easiest entry point into the country's Portuguese colonial past — a 451-year colony that left behind UNESCO-listed baroque churches in Old Goa and an entire pastel Latin Quarter in Panaji. Ships dock alongside at Mormugao Port (also written Mormugão / Marmagoa) on the southern bank of the Zuari River estuary, a working cargo port with a dedicated cruise berth at Berth 7. Vasco da Gama town is a 20-min flat walk from the gate but offers little for visitors — the heritage and beaches are 30-50 min away. Old Goa (the 16th-century Portuguese capital, with the Basilica of Bom Jesus housing St Francis Xavier's relics, the Sé Cathedral and the Convent of St Francis of Assisi) is 35 km north-east on the NH-66; Panaji's Fontainhas Latin Quarter is 30 km north on the same road. North Goa beaches (Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Aguada Fort) are 45 km north-west; Bogmalo Beach is 5 km from the wharf for a quick south-Goa swim. The Sahakari spice farm and the Mangeshi temple are 25-30 km east. Currency is the Indian rupee (₹/INR); cards work at most tourist sites, hotels and the larger shops but small market stalls, taxis and tuk-tuks are cash-only. Uber and Ola operate in Goa but auto-rickshaws are usually faster on heritage-quarter lanes. Cruise passengers must show their boarding card and passport at the port gate; taxis pre-paid through the Mormugao taxi co-operative kiosk inside the gate are fastest for cruise day.

🚢 Mormugao Port — Berth 7 Cruise Wharf
OSM-confirmed Mormugão Port, way 124351625 — a working cargo port on the southern bank of the Zuari River estuary, with Berth 7 as the dedicated cruise berth. Modern alongside cruise wharf with a port-shuttle service from the cruise berth to the gate (cargo trucks make the wharf itself unsafe for pedestrians). The gate opens onto Mormugao-Vasco Road and the GTDC welcome desk and pre-paid taxi co-op are inside the gate.

From the cruise terminal to the city centre
Pre-paid Mormugao taxi co-operative offers fixed-fare half- and full-day tours covering Old Goa, Panaji, North Goa beaches and the spice farms — the easiest DIY-with-driver option.
📍 Mormugao taxi co-op and tour operators inside the port gate
Pre-paid taxi vouchers with fixed fares to Old Goa (₹1200), Panaji (₹1000) and Calangute (₹1800) avoid the bargaining; metered street taxis exist but are slower.
📍 Pre-paid taxi voucher kiosk at the port gate
Uber and Ola operate around Vasco and Panaji with English-speaking drivers and in-app card billing; useful for short hops but Mormugao gate pickups can be slow because of port-area restrictions.
📍 Open the Uber or Ola app and pin the Mormugao Port gate
Auto-rickshaws are useful for short hops to Vasco da Gama town or Bogmalo Beach but Goa's larger heritage day-trips need a taxi or rental.
📍 Auto-rickshaw rank outside the port gate
Vasco da Gama town centre is a 20-min flat walk along an industrial-port road; the heritage sights and beaches are 30-90 min by taxi, so walk is only worth it for a quick coffee in Vasco.
📍 Step off the Mormugao gate onto Mormugao-Vasco Road
Scooter rental (₹400-700/day) is the iconic Goa transport but requires an International Driving Permit and confidence in dense Indian traffic — most cruisers stick to taxis.

Money & payments
Cards work for most heritage sites and hotels but bring ₹500-1500 in small notes for tuk-tuks, beach shacks and Anjuna market shopping; the Mormugao SBI ATM is the easiest place to top up.
