The Anglican church of St Bartholomew went up in 1855, built from local stone with a low roof and green shutters, and it is a reminder that Gustavia's free-port years brought in more than the Swedes and the French. The interior is plain, cool and usually open, with a handful of memorials to shipwrecked sailors. It takes ten minutes to look round and it sits directly on the walking route south out of town towards Shell Beach, which is what makes it worth the stop rather than a detour.
