Late afternoon and sunset
Ahu Tahai is a complex of three restored ceremonial platforms on the waterfront just north of Hanga Roa town. The centrepiece is Ko Te Riku, the only moai on Easter Island with its eyes and topknot (pukao) restored. The site is the closest ahu to town and the most-visited at sunset, when the moai are silhouetted against the Pacific. Walking distance from the town centre — arrive 30 minutes before sunset to claim a good vantage point.
Getting there from the port
