Rano Kau is a massive extinct volcano at the southwest tip of Easter Island, enclosing a nearly circular crater lake roughly 1.5 km wide. The crater walls drop steeply to the lake below, and the Pacific Ocean is visible beyond the rim on three sides. The viewpoint is one of the most dramatic natural landscapes in all of Polynesia. The Orongo ceremonial village sits on the crater rim just a short walk away.
