June and July for peak puffin season
The Gjesværstappan bird cliffs are one of northern Europe's most important seabird colonies — a ring of sea stacks off the west coast of Magerøya where an estimated million birds nest each summer. A two-hour boat tour from Gjesvær village takes you close to the cliffs for puffins (at peak June–July), Northern gannets, guillemots, kittiwakes and, often, white-tailed sea eagles. The skipper usually cuts the engine near the stacks so you can hear the colony. It's a longer day out once you factor in the 45-minute transfer to Gjesvær, so leave plenty of buffer.
