Port summary
Penneshaw is a small fishing village at the eastern tip of Kangaroo Island. Ships anchor in Hog Bay and tender passengers to the SeaLink jetty (the same one the mainland ferry uses). The major attractions — Seal Bay, Remarkable Rocks, Admirals Arch — are 1 to 2 hours by road, so most cruisers join a ship's tour or pre-book a SeaLink coach. Self-drive is possible but rental cars must be reserved well in advance because the island has limited supply.

🚢 Penneshaw Jetty — Tender Landing
Kangaroo Island's single tender landing, shared with the SeaLink mainland ferry. Ships anchor in Hog Bay roughly 500-800 m offshore; tenders shuttle passengers to the jetty face. No terminal building — a pop-up welcome marquee handles cruise-day arrivals and tour kiosks line Bay Terrace.

From the cruise terminal to the city centre
Day-tour coaches are the standard way to see Seal Bay and Flinders Chase. Pre-book online via SeaLink or through the ship.
📍 SeaLink and ship-excursion coaches park on Bay Terrace at the Penneshaw jetty.
Walking covers the foreshore, museum and Frenchmans Rock but nothing further — the wildlife sights need a coach or car.
📍 Step off the jetty straight onto Bay Terrace — Penneshaw's small grid of streets is immediately to the south.
Penneshaw has only a handful of taxis — useful for hotel transfers and Frenchmans Rock but never for cross-island trips.
📍 Small taxi rank at the Penneshaw jetty; on busy cruise days they fill up fast.
The island is large (155 km tip to tip) and roads can be unsealed — allow plenty of buffer to get back before all-aboard.
📍 Budget and a couple of local operators have desks in Penneshaw; reserve weeks in advance for cruise days.
