🚢 Docked port0.5 km / 0.3 mi to city centre
⚠️The old town and castle are steep and cobbled, so wear good shoes; Philippi, the beaches and Thassos all need transport and a careful eye on your all-aboard time.

Port summary

Kavala is a rare cruise port where the town starts at the quay. Ships berth at the central Apostolos Pavlos port; from the gangway it is about a 5 minute walk to the waterfront square and 8-10 minutes up into the Panagia old town, the castle and the Imaret. The signature sights - the Kamares aqueduct, the fortress, the Ottoman old town and the museums - are all walkable, so a half day on foot works well. For the UNESCO ruins of Philippi (about 17 km / 20-25 minutes) or a beach afternoon you will want a taxi, a bus or a ship tour, so decide early whether you are staying in town or heading out.
