🕐 Best time to visit
Morning or late afternoon, when the waterfront is cooler.
The Dutch first fortified this spot in the 17th century; the walls you see today date from 1816, and the small lighthouse tower was added in 1932. A few old cannons still point out over the harbour. The buildings are used as government offices, so there's no museum inside — but it's free, right by the pier and makes a quick, photogenic first stop before you wander the waterfront.
Getting there from the port
Walk south along the waterfront from the cruise pier — about 4 minutes.
