Port summary
Ships berth at the commercial and ferry port of Pichilingue, roughly 17 km (about 25 minutes) north of downtown La Paz - there is no walking into town, so plan a shuttle, taxi or organised tour. La Paz itself is a relaxed, genuinely Mexican city built around a 5 km seafront Malecon, with a cathedral, good museums and superb fish-taco stands. The headline experiences are natural: the protected cove of Playa Balandra (now with a paid CONANP reservation and timed entry), snorkelling with sea lions at Los Islotes off Espiritu Santo island, and swimming with whale sharks in the bay from roughly November to April. Todos Santos and the old mining town of El Triunfo make longer inland trips. Spanish is the language and the peso is the currency, though US dollars are widely accepted in tourist settings.

From the cruise terminal to the city centre
Most lines and local operators run a shuttle from Pichilingue to the Malecon in town (~25 min); it is the simplest way in as there is no walk-off. Confirm the last return time.
📍 Shuttle stand on the Pichilingue dock
Taxis wait for ships; fares to town or the beaches are set by zone, not metered - agree the price and your return pick-up before you get in. Cash (pesos preferred).
📍 Taxi rank on the Pichilingue dock
A public bus/colectivo runs the Pichilingue-La Paz highway to the centre; cheap but infrequent and Spanish-only, so it suits confident independent travellers only. Cash in pesos.
📍 Roadside stop on the Pichilingue highway
Panga boat tours to Espiritu Santo and the Los Islotes sea-lion colony leave from La Paz and Pichilingue; book ahead on cruise days and mind the return time for your ship.
📍 Boat operators at the Pichilingue and town piers
Organised excursion vans for Balandra, Todos Santos, El Triunfo and city tours meet the ship at the dock; a fuss-free option that handles the transfer and timing for you.
