At Harrison Cove the floating Milford Discovery Centre lets you walk 10 metres below the surface into a viewing chamber. A dark tannin layer near the top of the fiord tricks deep-water species into living unusually shallow, so you can see black coral and fish without diving. It is reached only by boat, usually as an add-on to a Southern Discoveries cruise.
