Oman's grand mosque (2001) is the country's most-visited religious site and one of the few large mosques in the Gulf that welcomes non-Muslims. The main prayer hall holds 6,500 people and contains a 70×60 m hand-loomed Iranian carpet (the world's largest at completion). A 14 m Swarovski crystal chandelier hangs above. Modest dress is required: knees + shoulders covered for men, abaya + headscarf for women (loaned at entry).
