Port summary
Cruise ships dock at Narvik's harbour, a 10-15 minute walk from the compact town centre, the Narvik War Museum on the main square and the base of the Narvikfjellet cable car, which lifts you to a panorama over the Ofotfjord and the surrounding peaks. Narvik grew as the ice-free port that ships Swedish iron ore, and the fierce 1940 Battle of Narvik gives the town a strong second-world-war heritage. The headline day-trips run inland along the fjords: the scenic Ofoten Railway (Ofotbanen) climbs past waterfalls to Bjornfjell and the Swedish border, with the historic Rallarveien navvy trail alongside; Rombaksfjord and the old Rombak Bridge mark the naval battlefield; and Polar Park, the world's northernmost wildlife park with wolves, bears and lynx, lies about an hour north. Midnight sun bathes the port from late May to mid-July, and the northern lights return in autumn.

From the cruise terminal to the city centre
It is a 10-15 minute walk from the harbour quay up into Narvik's compact centre, the War Museum and the cable-car base; the last stretch is uphill.
📍 From the quay up into town
A handful of taxis meet cruise ships and run to Rombaksfjord, the fjord viewpoints and Polar Park (about an hour north); book ahead and agree the fare, as taxis are few.
📍 Taxi rank at the quay, or book ahead
Local buses link the town, the cable car and nearby districts but run on limited timetables; fine for the adventurous, less so against a fixed all-aboard.
📍 Bus stops in the town centre
Roads are good and drive on the right; a rental reaches Rombaksfjord, the border and Polar Park at your own pace, though most cruise visitors prefer the train or a tour for one day.
📍 Pre-book in Narvik
The Narvikfjellet cable car, the Ofoten Railway from Narvik station and fjord-RIB safaris are the signature ways to see the area; the cable car and station are walkable from the quay.
📍 Cable car in town; trains at Narvik station; RIB at the quay
