Kilauea Point is a national wildlife refuge on Kauai's northernmost tip, where the 1913 lighthouse stands above cliffs full of nesting red-footed boobies, albatrosses and frigatebirds. In winter you may spot humpback whales offshore. Entry is by timed reservation on Recreation.gov for everyone 16 and over, and the refuge opens only Wednesday to Saturday. The lighthouse interior is closed, but the paved path to the point gives the classic view.
Getting there from the port
Drive north on Kuhio Highway to Kilauea, then Kilauea Road to the refuge
