Weekday mornings, when someone is usually working at the bench
Model boat building is Bequia's signature craft, a leftover from the island's whaling and schooner past, and a handful of workshops along the waterfront still carve and rig scale models by hand. Walk in and you will usually find someone at the bench shaping a hull from gommier wood or stitching sails. The finished boats, mostly Bequia whaleboats and Grenadines schooners, run from small mantelpiece pieces to metre-long commissions that take months. Even if you buy nothing it is worth ten minutes, and it explains more about the island than any museum here could.
