Port summary
Rhodes is one of the easiest cruise stops in the Eastern Mediterranean. Large ships use the Akandia commercial pier on the east side; smaller ships often take the Kolona berth right outside the old harbour walls. From Akandia it is a 10-15 minute flat walk along the seafront to the Marine Gate and into the Medieval City; from Kolona you are already at the gates. The Medieval City itself is a UNESCO-listed walled town with the Palace of the Grand Master, the Street of the Knights and the Archaeological Museum. Half-day excursions reach Lindos with its hilltop Acropolis (55 km / 1h south), Kallithea Springs (10 km / 20 min) and Anthony Quinn Bay; a full day stretches to the Valley of the Butterflies, Filerimos and ancient Ialysos. Greek bus network KTEL/RODA serves the whole island from the New Market hub next to Mandraki. Taxis are metered and accept cards via FreeNow / BEAT. Uber does not operate in Greece.

From the cruise terminal to the city centre
Walk-off into the Medieval City is the default for both berths — flat seafront promenade and no traffic to cross.
📍 Exit the Akandia terminal and follow the seafront promenade west to the Marine Gate; Kolona berth is right at the gate.
Cruise lines often run a paid shuttle from Akandia to the New Market gate when ships dock at the far end of the pier; only useful for low-mobility passengers since the walk is 10-15 minutes.
📍 Shuttle stop directly outside the Akandia terminal exit; check your daily ship newsletter for the drop-off point.
KTEL is the practical option for Lindos (€5 each way, ~1h), Kallithea (RODA city bus ~€2.50) and Faliraki; pay the driver or kiosk in cash.
📍 KTEL Dodekanisou (eastern routes incl. Lindos) and RODA city bus both depart the New Market terminal next to Mandraki, 10 min walk from Akandia.
Metered taxis with set tariffs to Lindos (~€70-90 each way) and Kallithea (~€20); card payment via FreeNow / BEAT widely accepted but confirm before the ride.
📍 Taxi rank outside the Akandia terminal exit and at the Mandraki square next to the New Market.
Half- and full-day private drivers cover Lindos / Filerimos / Petaloudes combos that public transport struggles with; book ahead in shoulder season for English-speaking guides.
📍 Driver guides meet ships at the Akandia gate with placards; pre-booked tours wait at the cruise-line shore-excursion desk.
