Port summary
Tórshavn is an exceptionally easy walk-off cruise call. Most ships berth at Eystari Kai (Eastern Quay) in the Eystaravág harbour basin, a flat 300–500 m from Tinganes, Havnarkirkjan cathedral and the old wooden town of Reyn. Larger vessels take the Bursatangi deep-water berth around the headland, about 20 minutes on foot or a short taxi ride. The Vestari Kai (Western Quay) is occasionally used for smaller ships. Weather is the single biggest wildcard — fog, sideways rain and shifting wind can delay boat excursions to Vestmanna or the outer islands. Independent day trips to Kirkjubøur, Saksun, Gjógv and the Vestmanna sea cliffs all work, but budget return time generously and keep one eye on the forecast.
Cruise docks
🚢 Eystari Kai — Main Cruise Berth
The main cruise berth in Tórshavn, on the east side of the Eystaravág harbour basin. Most calls dock here and passengers walk straight into the old town — Tinganes and Havnarkirkjan are 300–500 m away on the waterfront.
📍 Latitude: 62.003474, Longitude: -6.762571
See dock on port map →🚢 Vestari Kai — Western Cruise Berth

From the cruise terminal to the city centre
The default choice for most passengers. Eystari Kai to Tinganes is a flat 300–500 m on paved waterfront. From Bursatangi, allow 15–20 minutes on foot via Yviri við Strond.
📍 Exit Eystari Kai at the cruise reception and head north along Bryggjubakki — Tinganes and the old town are straight ahead.
Tórshavn's Bussleiðin town buses (red buses, lines 1–6) are completely free — no ticket, no card needed. SSL regional buses (blue) run out to Kirkjubøur, Vestmanna and Saksun and take contactless cards.
📍 Bussleiðin stops on Niels Finsens gøta and Doktara Jakobsens gøta — a 3–5 minute walk from the quay.
Small fleet — book ahead for outer villages. Cards and contactless accepted; metered fares published by the municipality. Expect kr400–600 one-way to Kirkjubøur.
📍 Taxi rank on the cruise quay at Eystari Kai on call days; otherwise phone Auto (+298 31 12 34) or Bil (+298 32 32 32).
The fastest way to reach Saksun, Gjógv, Mykines ferry at Sørvágur or the Múlafossur waterfall. Book in advance on cruise days — fleets are small. Toll applies on the Eysturoyartunnilin and Sandoyartunnilin subsea tunnels.
📍 Hertz, Avis and 62°N car rental desks at SMS Shopping Centre (1 km) and Vágar Airport (45 km).
Passenger ferries run to Nólsoy (20 min) several times daily and to Suðuroy (2 h). Mykines ferry leaves from Sørvágur, not Tórshavn. Book cars ahead in summer; walk-on is fine for cruise passengers.
📍 Strandfaraskip Landsins (SSL) ferry terminal at the west end of Vágsbotnur — 400 m walk from Eystari Kai.
