From the cruise terminal to the city centre
Pier Park is right beside Road Town. Most cruise passengers walk into town and only take a taxi for beaches or Sage Mountain.
📍 Exit Pier Park toward Waterfront Drive; Road Town's Main Street is 5 minutes on foot.
Shared open-air "safari" taxis are the local bus and the cheapest way to reach Cane Garden Bay or other beaches. Pay the driver in cash.
📍 Open-air safari taxis line up at the Pier Park taxi stand; ask the dispatcher for your beach or stop.
Government-set per-person fares — confirm the price before getting in. Most drivers prefer cash.
📍 Taxi rank at the Pier Park entrance; fares are set by the BVI Taxi Association.
Ferries to Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and Peter Island are doable on a port day but timing is tight — check the day's schedule before committing.
📍 Road Town Ferry Terminal at Wickhams Cay, a 5-minute walk from Pier Park.
Drive on the LEFT. A temporary BVI driving permit (~$10) is required on top of your home licence — the rental agency handles it.
📍 Several rental desks within walking distance of the Pier Park; book ahead.
