Gorda Peak National Park covers the wooded ridge in the middle of the island, and the summit at around 400 metres is the high point of Virgin Gorda. Two marked trailheads leave the North Sound road; the upper one is the short version, a shaded climb of twenty-five to thirty minutes through dry tropical forest with orchids, hermit crabs and the endemic Virgin Gorda gecko underfoot. At the top a wooden lookout tower lifts you above the canopy for a view over the whole archipelago, from Tortola round to Anegada. There is no gate and no fee, but there is also no water, so carry your own.
