The World Cruise Center (Berth 93, San Pedro) is roughly 40 km from Hollywood and there is no quick transit link, so the realistic DIY is a one-day rental car rather than public transport (the Metro J Line + B Line subway combination runs 90+ minutes each way). Take a short Uber (~€8pp for two sharing) to an Enterprise/Hertz branch in San Pedro or Long Beach, collect a car (~€60/day), then drive yourself: Hollywood Boulevard parking is ~€8, Griffith Observatory grounds and Santa Monica Pier are both free. Budget for heavy freeway traffic on the return leg.

The Getty's own admission is completely free — only a timed-entry reservation and (if driving) €25 summer parking apply, which is the whole DIY win versus the ship tour. From the World Cruise Center there is no fast transit, so share an Uber (~€33pp for two) the 45 km to the Getty, spend a couple of hours, then it is a short €10 hop down to Santa Monica Pier before a final Uber back to San Pedro. Going rideshare avoids the parking fee entirely.
