The South Harbour cruise berth at Nigg Bay is about 3 km from the centre, so take the seasonal CS1 cruise shuttle to Union Square (~15–20 min, around £3) — walking the 3 km via Victoria Bridge takes 40–50 min. From Union Square everything is walkable or one short bus hop: Old Aberdeen (King's College, St Machar's) is a 20-min walk or a 15-min ride on First bus 1/2 north, and all the headline sights are free to enter (St Machar's takes a donation).

Balmoral is about 80 minutes west of Aberdeen by road and there is no realistic public-transport day — the Stagecoach 201 to Crathie is roughly 2 hours each way — so a DIY here means a hire car collected in the city centre. General admission is £18.50 adult, the Crathie car park is £6, and the grounds open 10:00–17:00 with last admission 16:00. Check the castle is open before you go: the 2026 season runs only 28 March to 9 August.
