Airlie Beach has no cruise berth. Ships anchor in Pioneer Bay and tender passengers to the Port of Airlie marina on Port Drive, about 900 m east of the town centre; on some calls, usually for weather reasons, tenders go to Shute Harbour, 10 km east, instead. The tender ride can be long and only one tender unloads at a time, so the first hour is slow. From Port of Airlie it is a flat 10–15 minute walk to the free, stinger-safe Airlie Beach Lagoon and Shute Harbour Road, the main street with its cafés, surf shops and bars; on Saturdays the foreshore market runs until 1pm. The Bicentennial Walkway carries on west along the water to Coral Sea Marina, where most reef and Whitehaven boats depart. Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet are the big draw, but they are only reachable by boat, seaplane or helicopter, and most day trips last 6–7 hours, so book one that fits your tender times and returns well before all-aboard. Cruise Whitsundays' Reefworld trip to the outer reef returns after 18:00 and rarely works on a port day; a 60-minute scenic flight over Heart Reef is the time-efficient alternative. Daydream Island is 30 minutes away by ferry. Uber is not a reliable option here, so book taxis ahead.
