Combine with the Red Tower
Just below the Red Tower, five great stone-vaulted bays open straight onto the water: the Tersane, the Seljuk shipyard built in 1228, the only one of its kind to survive in Turkey. It was where the sultan's Mediterranean fleet was built and repaired, and you can walk through the cool, echoing arches right at the sea's edge. It is usually visited on the same ticket as the Red Tower and takes only a few minutes but is a genuinely rare piece of medieval maritime history.
