At a glance
Port summary
Alta's cruise quay is at Bukta, about 4-5 km from the centre near the airport, and the walk in is long and uphill, so nearly everyone uses the cruise-line shuttle, a taxi or a booked tour. The headline sights are spread out: the Alta Museum rock-art centre at Hjemmeluft, the Northern Lights Cathedral in the centre, and the Sorrisniva and Alta River valley beyond, so pick one or two and allow transfer time.

🚢 Bukta - Terminalkaia (Alta Cruise Quay)
Alta's deep-water quay at Bukta, next to the airport and about 4-5 km from the town centre. Cruise ships berth alongside; there is no terminal building, so passengers use the cruise-line shuttle, taxis or booked tours.

From the cruise terminal to the city centre
Cruise-line shuttles run between the Bukta quay and the town centre; the walk is too long, so this is the usual way in.
📍 At the quay exit in Bukta
Taxis meet cruise ships and take cards; Norwegian fares are high, so agree the ballpark before you set off.
📍 Taxi rank at the quay when ships are in
Local Snelandia buses serve the town but are infrequent and not timed to ships; check departures before relying on them.
📍 Snelandia bus stops on the main road
It is about 4-5 km uphill from the quay to the centre; doable in ~45 minutes but not worth it on a short call.
📍 Follow the main road from Bukta toward the centre
