Aspendos has the finest surviving Roman theatre anywhere: built in the 2nd century, its semicircle of seats for some 8,000 people and, above all, its almost intact multi-storey stage wall stand as they did nearly two millennia ago. The acoustics remain remarkable, and the theatre still hosts concerts and an opera festival. It lies about 45 km east of Antalya near Serik and is usually visited by private tour or taxi, frequently paired with Perge on a single ancient-cities day.
