Behind Hadrian's Gate the old town of Kaleici unfolds as a warren of narrow, cobbled lanes lined with restored Ottoman timber houses, boutique hotels, carpet shops and tea gardens. The streets tumble downhill toward the horseshoe-shaped Roman harbour, passing the Kesik Minaret and countless photogenic corners.
