Fantoft's stave church was originally built in Fortun in Sogn and moved to Bergen in the 1880s. After it burned down in 1992 it was rebuilt as a faithful copy, complete with dragon heads on the gables and tarred timber walls. It sits in a quiet pine wood above the Paradis neighbourhood, so the setting is half the charm. It's the easiest way to see a stave church on a Bergen port day.
Getting there from the port
Walk to Byparken, take Bybanen line 1 to Fantoft and follow the signs uphill, about 10 min
