Port summary
Bimini is a chain of small islands on the edge of the Gulf Stream, famous for big-game fishing, Ernest Hemingway's 1930s visits and clear water full of rays, dolphins and sharks. Cruise ships dock alongside the long ocean pier of Resorts World Bimini at the northern end of North Bimini; since 2021 there is no tender. Only one ship fits, so you usually have the island to yourself. Virgin Voyages calls most often and uses its own Beach Club here; Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Carnival and others also call. A free tram links the pier with the resort's Fisherman's Village, its beach and pools, and the Beach Club, but it does not leave the resort. North Bimini itself is only about 11 km long and a few hundred metres wide. Bailey Town, with conch stands and small shops, starts 10–15 minutes' walk south of the resort, and Alice Town, the little capital with the Big Game Club marina, the Craft Centre, the Dolphin House and Radio Beach, is about 4 km away: a taxi costs around $5 per person, or rent a golf cart for the day. Boat trips leave for the SS Sapona wreck, Honeymoon Harbour's stingrays on Gun Cay and the Bimini Road stones; South Bimini, with the Shark Lab and the Fountain of Youth, is a short water-taxi hop from Alice Town. The Bahamian dollar is at par with the US dollar and US cash is accepted everywhere.
