Morning, before the desert sun gets hard
Forty kilometres south of Lima, Pachacámac spreads over a dusty headland above the Pacific: temple platforms from the Lima, Wari and Ychsma cultures, an Inca Temple of the Sun on the ridge and the reconstructed Acllawasi, the house of the chosen women. The oracle here was consulted for fifteen centuries. The site museum at the entrance is excellent and air-conditioned.
Getting there from the port
Taxi or pre-booked driver south on the Panamericana; budget a half-day including the drive back.
