This is the square Pizarro laid out in 1535, and the buildings around it still hold the city's power: the cathedral with Pizarro's remains in a side chapel, the Archbishop's Palace with its carved balcony, the Municipality and the Government Palace, where the guard changes at noon. Everything else in the historic centre radiates from here, and it is all free.
