The Botanical Gardens of Nevis are a private eight-acre garden on the old Montpelier estate land, laid out on the southern slope with the cone of Nevis Peak behind and the sea below. The set pieces are a Mayan-style temple folly, a rainforest conservatory under glass, a bamboo garden, an orchid terrace and a run of tropical fruit trees, all planted since the late 1990s and now thoroughly mature. Entry is US$13 for adults and US$8 for children between six and twelve, and the gardens open Monday to Saturday from ten until three, which is tight against a short port call. There is a tea house for lunch.
