Morning, when the channel is at its calmest
Oualie Beach sits on the sheltered north-western shore looking across the two-mile Narrows to St Kitts, with Booby Island in the channel between. The sand is a darker gold than Pinney's and the bay is small and calm, which makes it the easiest swimming on the island for young children. Behind the beach are a hotel, a bar and restaurant, a dive shop and a watersports operation renting kayaks, paddleboards and windsurfers, and the water taxis to St Kitts run from the jetty here. Twenty minutes by taxi from the pier at a published US$20 for the car, it works well as a half day.
