Truro, Cornwall's only city, is an easy and scenic 25-minute ride up the Maritime Line from Falmouth Docks station. Its three-spired Gothic Revival cathedral, completed in 1910, soars over a compact centre of Georgian streets, an indoor market and independent shops and cafes. The train ride itself, along wooded creeks and viaducts, is part of the appeal.
