Affectionately called 'Okushida-san', this is Hakata's oldest shrine and its guardian, dedicated to gods of longevity and prosperity. It is the spiritual home of the July Yamakasa festival, whose towering decorated float is displayed here, watched over by a sacred 1,000-year-old ginkgo tree.
