From the tender wharf, walk 1 km along Kaiti Beach Road to the base of Kaiti Hill, then climb Queens Drive or Titirangi Drive to the summit (steep 20-min walk). The hill, Captain Cook statue, waterfront, and Gladstone Road shops are all within 2 km of the wharf — no transport needed. Waikanae Beach is a 15-min flat walk from the wharf along the waterfront.

Cellar doors are 8–12 km from the tender wharf — not walkable. Taxi from the port to Matawhero Wines is about NZD $25–30 (~€14–17) one way. Alternatively, start at the Gisborne Wine Centre right on the harbourfront (5-min walk from the wharf) for tastings without transport. Tasting fees at cellar doors are typically NZD $10–15 (~€6–8) per winery, often waived with purchase.
