Great Stirrup Cay is a private-island port day, not a town: Norwegian ships anchor offshore and tender guests ashore while a new pier is finished. Three beaches, the new Great Life Lagoon pool and complimentary dining (and open bar with Free at Sea) are included; the zipline, Silver Cove villas and the adults-only Vibe Shore Club are paid extras. A $150M expansion is underway, with a Great Tides Water Park opening September 2026.

The island is reached by a roughly 10-minute tender from the anchored ship (a new two-berth pier is being completed, so most ships still tender). Everything is within a short flat walk of the landing: the main beach, the Great Life Lagoon pool, the kids' splash pad and the Jumbey Beach Grill buffet are all included free, so the DIY counterpart to a paid cabana is simply claiming free loungers and bringing or renting snorkel gear (~€15). A clamshell shade is about €45 if you want guaranteed shade without the full cabana.

A guided jet-ski tour has no independent substitute on a private island — NCL's concession is the only operator and you cannot bring your own craft. The honest DIY swap is a self-rented stand-up paddleboard (~$39 / €35 per hour) or kayak from the on-beach watersports hut, paddled around sheltered Bertram's Cove: calmer and shorter-range, but a fraction of the price. Tender ashore, then a 5-minute walk to the watersports hut.
