Pier-2 began in 2002 as an artists' squat in a row of empty sugar and fishmeal warehouses, and has grown into Kaohsiung's creative quarter. The Dayi and Penglai warehouse rows host changing exhibitions, independent design shops, bookshops and cafés, while the lawns and quays between them are dotted with oversized sculptures and murals. It is free to wander, easy with children and at its best on a weekday morning before the crowds. Combine it with the Great Harbor Bridge, the railway museum and the KW2 warehouse for an easy half-day.
Getting there from the port
Walk 15–20 minutes west along the harbour, or light rail to Dayi Pier-2 (C12) or Penglai Pier-2 (C13)
