Peak tidal flow, as timed by the expedition team
In Talbot Bay the Kimberley's huge tides push the sea through two narrow gaps in the McLarty Range faster than it can flow back, so the water level on one side can be several metres higher than on the other. The result is a waterfall that runs sideways. Expedition Zodiacs circle the mouth of the gaps at peak flow rather than shooting through them. Timing depends entirely on the tide, and the expedition team decides on the day.
