Leixões is a 6 km out-of-town port — Metro Line A (blue) runs from Mercado de Matosinhos (8 min walk from Terminal 1) directly to São Bento in central Porto in 25-30 min for €2 single or €7.50 with the 24-hour Andante Tour card. From São Bento it is all walking: 5 min uphill to Livraria Lello (timed Ticket-Voucher €8, fully redeemable against any book), 10 min to Sé Cathedral and Ribeira, then across the upper deck of Dom Luís I Bridge to the Vila Nova de Gaia cellar quarter. Taylor's self-guided cellar tour with tasting of three ports is €25pp walk-up and is the most generous tasting of the major cellars.

Train DIY is feasible but tight on a cruise day. From Leixões take Metro Line A to São Bento (30 min, €2 single or €8 day pass), then a CP regional train (Linha do Douro) São Bento → Peso da Régua, ~2 h each way at €10.45 one-way. Régua is the practical DIY base — the Museu do Douro is a 10 min riverside walk from the station (€8), and several operators (Tomaz do Douro, Rota do Douro) run 1-hour Douro cruises with onboard port tasting from the Régua quay for €15-25pp. Sit-down lunch riverside is €18-25pp. Pinhão is 30 min further by train but eats the day's buffer — only attempt if your ship is in port 11+ hours.
