Port summary

Lorient gets only a dozen or so cruise calls a year, mostly small and mid-size ships (up to 240 m), and they berth at the working Kergroise commercial quays just south of the centre. There is no cruise terminal building; lines usually run a shuttle bus into town, but the centre is only 20 minutes on foot. The town was flattened in WWII and rebuilt, so its draw is maritime heritage: the Cité de la Voile and the Flore submarine at Lorient La Base, the 18th-century Enclos du Port, the €1.50 bateau-bus across the roadstead to Port-Louis's citadel, or the ferry to the Île de Groix. For Carnac's standing stones or medieval Vannes, take the TER train from Lorient station (Vannes in 27 minutes).
