Port summary
Luganville is a relaxed, low-key port that rewards independent travelers. Taxis are the main transport — always agree on the fare before getting in. The town itself is walkable in under 15 minutes: the market, waterfront eateries, and a few supermarkets are all close. For the big-ticket experiences — SS President Coolidge dive, Matevulu Blue Hole, Champagne Beach — you'll need a taxi or pre-arranged tour. Diving the Coolidge requires a dive operator and is not a same-day walk-up option without prior booking. ATMs exist in town but can run dry on busy ship days; bring cash from your ship.

From the cruise terminal to the city centre
Agree the fare before you get in — the standard rate is Vt1000–2500 within town or to the dive sites. Negotiate a round-trip rate for Champagne Beach (the driver waits).
Taxis park at the wharf exit, ready for arriving cruise passengers. They also circulate on Main Street.
Local minibuses ('blong bus') run fixed routes along Main Street and to outer settlements. Flat rate Vt150 within town; cash only. Services taper off in the afternoon and are infrequent — allow extra time.
Flag down on Main Street or wait near the market roundabout for departures toward the waterfront and town centre.
A 4WD is strongly recommended for anything beyond town — the road north to Champagne Beach is unsealed and can be muddy after rain. Book ahead: fleets in Luganville are small and sometimes fully taken by tour groups.
A handful of operators are based near the market in town. Ask at the wharf information point for current contacts.
