The Matevulu Blue Hole is the most photogenic natural swimming spot on Espiritu Santo. Fed by underground springs, the water is a vivid, almost unreal shade of electric blue — the result of mineral content and depth playing with the light. The pool is set in dense jungle with a sandy floor and clear visibility to several metres. The blue hole is safe to swim in and popular with local families at weekends. A small entry fee is collected at the gate. Rope swings are often rigged in the trees for those who want to add some drama to their entry. Bring a dry bag for your phone — the water looks even better in photos. Matevulu sits about 35 km north of Luganville, a 40-minute taxi ride on a sealed road. It pairs well with a stop at the nearby Nanda Blue Hole if time allows.
