Mayreau Gardens is the reef between Mayreau and the Tobago Cays, a shallow spread of coral heads, sea fans and vase coral in water clear enough to see the bottom from the boat. It is a gentler option than the marine park proper: the depth is forgiving, the current is usually light and the fish life is good without a long crossing. Local boatmen at Saline Bay run short trips out and will lend masks and fins if you ask. Go in the morning when the water is flattest, and agree the price before you leave.
