🕐 Best time to visit
Late afternoon for the light and the cooler climb.
The 16th-century Portuguese fort sits on a rocky outcrop above the corniche, restored in 2018 with a clean walking path and ramparts. The view from the cannon platform takes in the cruise terminal, the souq, the dhow harbour and the limestone hills behind. Free entry, but the climb is steep — 5 minutes of stone steps with no shade.
Getting there from the port
Walk east along the corniche to the fort steps; a steep 5-min climb up.
